Face it, we're not all going to be able to afford a Porsche or a Ferrari. It's a sad fact to have to face up to, but it's there nonetheless. Exotic cars are out of reach for all but the very rich, and even they sometimes have trouble keeping up with the payments and maintenance of a Lotus or a Bentley. The allure is strong though; imagine sliding into the leather cockpit of your Lamborghini and flying around curves at a hundred miles per hour with the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. You have your driving gloves, you have your sunglasses, you have your driver's liscence; the only thing you don't have is enough money for a Lamborghini. Your Taurus or Camry just doesn't have enough horsepower to take mountain roads at 100, and even if you could get it going that fast it would probably fly off the road due to its lousy suspension.

But what if you didn't have to own the Lamborghini or Lotus to be able to drive it around those hairpin turns?

Exotic car rental is a great way to try out the high-powered sports or luxury car of your dreams without selling your house or stealing one from one of your yuppie friends. More and more car rental companies, especially in wealthier areas, are starting to specialize in exotic car rental, and even regular, airport car rental companies like Hertz and Enterprise are starting to rent out exotics or at least luxury cars along with the standard economy and touring cars.

You don't have to fly out of town or be on vacation to try an exotic car rental; almost any special occasion will do. Want to impress your wife on your anniversary or knock the socks off your date? Imagine showing up at the door behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 or Lotus Espirit. Feel like making your son or daughter's prom a night to remember? Forget about the limo; a sleek black Bentley will get them there in style.

Though exotic car rental is usually a little more expensive than renting a Camry at the airport, it's always a lot more memorable. Exotic car rentals also make great gifts; some rental agencies which rent exotics also rent classic cars, so you could give your dad or uncle the ride of his dreams in a vintage Corvette or brand new Ferrari. It'll go over a lot better than the set of golf clubs or tie clip you were considering as an alternative.
